Students are required to move between the two buildings during all four seasons sometimes resulting in late student arrivals and instruction start time delays. In addition teachers may have to move between the two locations due to classroom and office locations.

Current Condition: Out of Date Classrooms https://pentucketproject.com/portfolio/out-of-date/ Tue, 14 Nov 2017 02:13:10 +0000 https://demo.seothemes.com/corporate-pro/?post_type=portfolio&p=32
  • Out of date design: The high school and middle school are “Purpose Built” designs where the teacher stands in front and lectures and students sit in rows. Today the two schools use a collaborative application based learning environment and the classrooms no longer support today’s learning method.
  • Technology: Everything we do is an add on/retrofit, so it does not work properly. The building doesn’t support a strong WiFi signal.
  • Science: Science rooms in the original high school building are outdated and not fully functional for modern science curriculum.
  • The water, gas and electric are all combined into one sink area in the science classrooms. Many of these stations aren’t fully functional.

    Current Condition: Facility Issues https://pentucketproject.com/portfolio/facility-issues/ Tue, 14 Nov 2017 02:12:51 +0000 https://demo.seothemes.com/corporate-pro/?post_type=portfolio&p=28

The high school and middle school buildings are used about 17 hours each school day, 5-10 hours a day on weekends,  and throughout the summer.

Completed in 1956 the high school has numerous infrastructure issues:

    • The building has its original electrical, which is at capacity, so no new projectors or other technology can be added to classrooms. In addition the building wiring is not up to code.
    • The plumbing is old and corroded, and insulated with asbestos.
    • The building foundation is cracking and there is frequent flooding.
    • The heating system is original to the building. Replacement parts are no longer being made, so if any problem with the boiler arises, parts must be fabricated. The system is also inefficient when compared to current standards.

PRSD contracted CGKV Architects and Fitzmeyer & Tocci Associates to prepare an existing conditions report to accompany the Statement of Interest submitted to the Massachusetts School Building Authority in 2015. This report concluded that the HVAC equipment from 1956 was in “imminent danger of possible failure. This would result in a large portion of the building being without heat.” They also concluded that the original 1956 electrical distribution equipment appears to be in “imminent danger of possible failure, which would result in the school being without power.” The district is partnering with the MSBA to develop plans to address these critical infrastructure concerns, as well as other facility related issues. Furthermore, the district has created a facility contingency plan to address where we will educate students in the case the building is unusable.
